GoSafer with Ohio Natural Energy Institute

Ohio Oil and Gas Association, Drill Bit Magazine, Summer 2025

Mark your calendars because the Ohio Natural Energy Institute’s annual GoSafer fire training for first responders will take place on Oct. 11, 2025, at Wayne County Regional Training Facility in Apple Creek, Ohio. This training offers education and experience to hundreds of firefighters and first responders in Ohio on the natural gas and oil industry. Thanks to the generosity of local producers, our GoSafer program is completely free for our firefighters and first responders.

”Our GoSafer training is an initiative we are extremely proud of at ONEi,” said Bruce Tague, Executive Director of the Ohio Natural Energy Institute. “Being able to offer this program to those who serve our state free of charge is so gratifying.”

But did you know that ONEi also offers virtual training modules that can be completed online and accessed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year?

Our in person and online modules teach common practices as well as references and standards used by the fire service and the natural gas and oil industry. Participants are offered insight into the processes and equipment involved with oil and gas exploration, drilling and producing; the importance of establishing a unified command in the event of an emergency; and the use of foam, water and other resources to combat certain scenarios.

GoSafer Training Highlights
-Fundamentals of Natural Gas and Oil
-Site Safety, HAZMAT, H2S Awareness and Gas Monitor Use
-Conventional Production and Equipment
-Unconventional Production and Equipment
-Storage, Processing and Transportation of Petroleum Products
-Responding to an Emergency
-KSAs (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities) for Hands-On Evolution Day

ONEi also understands that departments may not have the ability or bandwidth to make it to Wooster in October. For that reason, we’re excited to share that we have created a “Mobile GoSafer” training which is a version of our traditional GoSafer program that takes the training to fire departments. To date, we have facilitated three successful mobile trainings and partnered with Expand Energy and Infinity Resources to ensure that first responders in production areas are receiving this important training and knowledge at no cost to their departments.
